1. Purpose
This Prescription Policy explains how VetPharmacy.ae handles veterinary prescription medicines ordered through our website. Our goal is to ensure that veterinary medicines are supplied safely, legally, and only where appropriate for the animal patient.
2. Prescription-only veterinary medicines
Certain veterinary medicines require a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian. These products cannot be dispensed unless VetPharmacy.ae receives and verifies a valid prescription before supply.
Prescription-only products may include, but are not limited to:
- Antibiotics
- Hormonal medicines
- Sedatives or anaesthetic products
- Controlled or semi-controlled veterinary medicines
- Prescription pain-relief medicines
- Any product classified by UAE authorities as requiring veterinary prescription
VetPharmacy.ae reserves the right to classify a product as prescription-only based on UAE law, supplier guidance, product registration status, or professional judgment.
3. Valid prescription requirements
A prescription submitted to VetPharmacy.ae must be clear, complete, and issued by a licensed veterinarian. The prescription should include:
- Veterinarian’s full name, clinic name, licence number, stamp, and contact details
- Date of issue
- Animal owner’s name and contact details
- Animal species, name or ID, age, weight where relevant
- Medicine name, strength, dosage form, quantity, and directions for use
- Duration of treatment or number of repeats, where applicable
- Veterinarian’s signature or approved electronic authorization
VetPharmacy.ae may reject prescriptions that are incomplete, unclear, expired, altered, suspicious, or not compliant with applicable UAE requirements.
4. Prescription validity
Unless UAE law, the prescribing veterinarian, or the product category requires a shorter period, prescriptions will be accepted only within the validity period stated on the prescription.
Where no validity period is stated, VetPharmacy.ae may apply an internal validity period of 60 days from date of issue for prescription-only veterinary medicines.
Repeat prescriptions will only be dispensed where the prescription clearly authorizes repeats and where the repeat supply remains clinically and legally appropriate.
5. How to submit a prescription
Customers may submit a prescription by:
- Uploading it during checkout
- Emailing it to: [insert email]
- Sending it by WhatsApp to: [insert number], if available
- Providing the original prescription on delivery, where required
VetPharmacy.ae may request the original prescription before dispatching or handing over the medicine.
6. Prescription verification
Before dispensing prescription-only medicines, VetPharmacy.ae may verify the prescription by contacting the prescribing veterinarian or clinic.
We may also verify:
- The veterinarian’s licence status
- The clinic’s details
- The medicine, dosage, quantity, and treatment instructions
- Whether the prescription appears altered, duplicated, expired, or inconsistent
Orders will not be dispatched until verification is complete where verification is required.
7. Controlled, anaesthetic, and semi-controlled veterinary products
Controlled, anaesthetic, narcotic, psychotropic, or semi-controlled veterinary medicines are subject to stricter UAE rules. Ministerial Resolution No. 240 of 2025 requires relevant veterinary practitioners to use the unified platform for prescribing and dispensing anaesthetic, controlled, and semi-controlled veterinary products, subject to the applicable procedures and conditions.
VetPharmacy.ae may refuse online sale, delivery, or dispensing of such products unless all legal and regulatory requirements are satisfied.
For these products, we may require:
- Additional identity verification
- Original prescription documentation
- Verification through the required official platform
- Collection from an approved location instead of delivery
- Additional records required by law
8. Refusal to dispense
VetPharmacy.ae may refuse to dispense or cancel an order where:
- No valid prescription is provided
- The prescription is expired, incomplete, unclear, altered, or suspicious
- The requested quantity exceeds the prescription
- The medicine is not suitable for online supply or delivery
- The product is restricted, recalled, expired, unavailable, or prohibited
- The prescription cannot be verified
- The order may breach UAE law or professional standards
Where payment has already been made, eligible refunds will be handled according to our Refund Policy.
9. No substitution or prescription changes
VetPharmacy.ae will not change, amend, substitute, increase quantity, or alter instructions on a veterinary prescription unless permitted by applicable law and authorized by the prescribing veterinarian or another legally qualified professional.
Recent UAE public guidance on the veterinary medical products law states that dispensing or altering a veterinary prescription is prohibited except by a qualified and licensed veterinarian.
10. Animal safety and customer responsibility
Customers are responsible for ensuring that:
- The medicine is used only for the animal named or described in the prescription
- The veterinarian’s dosage and instructions are followed exactly
- Medicines are stored according to the label
- Treatment is not shared with other animals
- Any adverse reaction is reported immediately to the prescribing veterinarian
VetPharmacy.ae does not replace veterinary diagnosis, examination, or clinical advice.
11. Adverse reactions and product issues
If your animal experiences an adverse reaction, stop using the product where appropriate and contact your veterinarian immediately.
